83. Puthoor Mahadeva Temple
Puthur Shiva Temple is located around 18 km northeast of Payyanur in Kannur district, Kerala.Shiva worshipped in the temple is swayambhu. The temple was a Mahakshetra in ancient times. The temple is located at the top of a hill where the Swayamboo Siva is located in a fairly large Sreekovil. Darshan is in the east.
Here, 3 poojas and 2 Seevelis are offered. There are steps on the east and west sides to get to the temple. Although located at the top of a hill, the 2 ponds and the well in the temple facilities are full of water. Situated in the eastern side of Karivellur in Kannur district, about 20 kms from Payyannur.
The temple is situated in Puthoor village in Malappuram district in Kerala. The sanctum sanctorum, where the presiding deity Lord Shiva resides, is in the form of Shivalinga (a phallic representation of Lord Shiva) and is fully filled with water. The temple is currently under the aegis of Malabar Devaswom Board.
