Bhadrakali shakti peetha is also known as Savitri peetha. A big idol of Devi Kali is established in the temple. One can see a big lotus as one enters into the temple which has the impression of left leg of Devi Sati. This is built of white marble.the right ankle of the Sati fell here inside a well, so this temple is known as Devikoop..It is said that the Pandavas of Mahabharat worshipped Devi Durga here along with Shri Krishna and sought blessings for the victory in the war against Kauravas. After winning the war, they donated horses in this temple and since then the tradition is prevalent here. It is also said that Lord Krishna and Balrama had their mundan( bald head) ceremony here so devotees come here for the same for their children.

Bhadrakali temple is located on Jhansa road, Thanesar, District Kurukshetra, Haryana. Bhadrakali temple is also known as Shri Devikoop temple. The temple is dedicated to Devi Kali which is one of the nine forms of Devi. The temple is among 51 Shakti-peethas. Bhadrakali shakti peetha is also known as Savitri peetha. As per mythology, Devi Sati gave her life by jumping into the fire of Havan organised by her father King Daksheshwara. When Lord Shiva was running around the earth carrying her body then Lord Vishnu divided the body in 51 parts using his Sudarshan chakra. Out of those 51 parts, the right ankle of the Sati fell here inside a well, so this temple is known as Devikoop.It is said that the Pandavas of Mahabharat worshipped Devi Durga here along with Shri Krishna and sought blessings for the victory in the war against Kauravas

Shri Devikoop Bhadrakali Mandir is known as Savitri Shaktipeeth in Kurukshetra. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of India. It is believed the right ankle of Sati Mata fell at this spot. In this temple, Mata Sati is worshipped as Bhadrakali and Lord Shiva as Sthanu Mahadev. The temple is also known as Savitripeeth, Devikoop, and Kalika Peeth.

Bhadrakali Temple Kurukshetra History

Sati Mata had married Lord Shiva against the will of her father, Prajapati Daksha. To celebrate his appointment as Prajapati by Lord Brahma, Daksha organized a Yagya where he invited all deities, but not Lord Shiva and his own daughter. Mata Sati went without an invitation and was shocked when Daksha insulted Mahadev in the presence of all the guests. She ended Her life by stepping into the Yagya Fire. Lord Shiva was greatly grieved and enraged. He took Sati Mata’s body and performed the deadly Tandava. To save the world from devastation, Lord Vishnu separated Her body from Lord Shiva with His Sudarshan Chakra. Sati Mata’s body was cut into 51 parts. A Shaktipeeth came to be at each of the places the body parts fell.

Pandavas have Prayed in Savitri Shaktipeeth

As we all know, Kurukshetra was the venue of the great Mahabharata War between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Before the commencement of the battle of Good vs. Evil, the Pandavas prayed to Maa Bhadrakali for victory. They also donated Chariots, Horses and wealth. For that reason, the tradition of offering horses and chariots made of clay, silver, or other metals is prevalent in the temple.In the sanctum of the Savitri Shaktipeeth Temple, a Murti of Mata Bhadrakali can be seen, beautifully adorned with clothes and jewelry. On the door of the sanctum, a metal ankle (representing Sati Mata’s fallen ankle) has been placed.

The sanctum also has the Murtis of Mata Saraswati, Mata Gayatri, and others. In an adjacent room, one can see the Murtis of Avatars such as Sita-Rama and Radha-Krishna. On the first floor of the temple, a Shivling has been enshrined. There also are sculptures of Lord Vishnu on Garuda with His Sudarshan Chakra and Lord Shiva carrying Sati Mata’s body. Navratri and Maha Shivratri are the main festivals celebrated here.
