The first Mandir ever built outside India was that of Nairobi (East Africa Satsang Mandal) and Shree Tanzania Swaminarayan Mandal was then established as Tanganyika Branch of East Africa Satsang Mandal. A 5 spires (Shikhar) Mandir was built in Dar Es Salaam in 1958.
After the breaking of the East African Cooperation in 1977, the Branch became an independent organization, as it is now known as Shree Tanzania Swaminarayan Mandal.
