Keezhtali Mahadeva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva is situated in Kodungalloor of Thrissur District in Kerala state in India. The Keezhtali Mahadeva Temple is one of the important temples in Chera Kingdom. According to folklore, sage Parashurama has installed the idol of Shiva. The temple is a part of the 108 Shiva Temples in Kerala.The temple is one of the four thali temples mentioned in the 108 Shiva temples

The temple is also known as the Keetholi Temple.

 

 

Puranam

 

Ancient Kerala and its administrative structures have been carried out in certain temples known as Thalis. Keehi Thali, Arattali, Meltali, Nediyathali and Chingpuruthu Thali are five thali temples in the Ancient Chera Kingdom. These temples are a part of the 108 Shiva temples of ancient Kerala. The Melthali Temple is not yet known Arathali is believed to be in the temples of Kottarithi near Thiruvanchikkulam.

Keezhtali Mahadeva Temple is the largest Shivalinga temple in Kerala state. It is one of the few Hindu temples that were destroyed during the Mysore Sultan Tipu's campaign.

Keezhthali Sree Mahadeva Temple is a renowned and historically important great Siva Temple situated in Tali village of Talappilly Taluk (Varavoor Grama Panchayat) of Thrissur district in Kerala, South India. The Tali village is a panoramic place known for its rich tradition and great historical importance.

It is believed that there were 108 Siva Temples in Tali Village, which were constructed by erstwhile Maharaja Cheraman Perumal for his darsan. Most of these temples were destroyed due to various reasons over period of time and Keezhthali Sree Mahadeva Temple is one among them.

Only a very big Sivalingam on a small hillock was left over by the age as remnant of the temple. This great temple has since been reconstructed and today, Keezhthali Sree Mahadeva Temple, with the biggest Siva Lingam in Kerala, is the only temple to conduct “Saivagama Padi Pooja” (Pooja conducted on 36 steps inscribed with 36 Siva Sookthams and Paryayams of Parvathi Devi).

 

Sevas

 

There are three poojas here on a regular basis. (Usha pooja, Noon pooja and Athazha pooja). The shivaratri festival of the temple is usually celebrated in the month of Malayalam Kumbha (February - March).
