The presiding deity of the temple is Shiva, located in main Sanctum Sanctorum, facing West. According to folklore, sage Parashurama has installed the idol. The temple is a part of the 108 famous Shiva temples in Kerala.

 The temple is famous for its annual Shivratri festival held in Kumbha masam (February – March). The temple maintains a huge pond and is surrounded by trees. The main upa devatas here are Bhagavathy and Ganapati.The annual festival is famous for various pujas, abhishekams and homams.
