This temple represents a must-worship temple for Chitra Nakshatra devotees. For Lord Guru, Perumal is represented in Chitrai Nakshatra, in the month of Chitrai, in a chariot with beautiful carvings, so the moolava here is represented by the name of Chitraratha Vallabhaperumal with mothers in a sandalwood statue.
It is said that it is auspicious for Chitrai Nakshatrakars to worship this Perumala to get rid of their sins. It is believed that if you visit this temple with a horoscope in your hand and pray, your sins will be removed. The Guru Bhagavan here sits as a Yoga Guru. The fact that the guru and the wheel are self-contained is a further highlight. It is said to be a million blessings to see Guru. In this way, if you see him, who is a master of Swayambu Yoga, you will get married and you will be blessed with a son immediately.
Many Asuras lost their lives in the war between the Devas and the Asuras. Wanting to restore them, Guru Shukracharya, the leader of the Asuras, brought them back to life with the mantra he had learned called 'Mritasanjeevini'. Devas who wanted to learn this wonderful mantra also sent Guru Bhagavan's son Kasan to Shukracharya. Kasan also took his father's blessing and left for Asuraloka.
Seeing Kasan, Sukracharya's daughter fell in love. Kasan also learned that mantra from her. When this matter reached the ears of the Asuras, thinking that he was a danger to us if he was still alive, they killed him and reduced him to ashes and put the ashes in the Asura Guru's drink without his knowledge.
The daughter appealed to her father to see Kasan. He knew everything by his wisdom and made Kasan in his stomach come alive with that mantra. In this Asura Guru gave up his life. Kasan brought back the life of the one who saved his life with Mridasanjeevini mantra.
vini mantra. Then Asuraguru asked him to marry his daughter. But Kasano took leave saying that I am her brother because I sprung from their womb. Sukracharya's daughter became enraged by this and made it impossible for Kasan to come out of the mountains by Aranaki. Knowing this, Guru Bhagavan appealed to Perumal to save his son from penance at this place.
Pursuant to Guru Bhagavan's request, Perumal appeared in a chariot with beautiful carvings and ordered the rescue of Kasan. Kasan was also rescued. Guru Bhagavan asked Perumal to wake up at that place. That is why Perumal graces here as Chitraratha Vallabhaperumal.
In this temple Vaikunda Ekadasi and Guru Peirchi are very special. Madurai District is located in Kuruvithara near Cholavanthan. The Guru had set up a department for his son at Vaigai and hence the name Kuruvithurai (Guruvinthurai) came to this place. Not only Chitra astrologers but also other astrologers visit this site in large numbers to get the yogic vision of the Guru.
