The managing god of this temple is Lord Sri Kalvar seen confronting towards the north bearing and Goddess of this temple is Goddess Komalavalli Thayaar. There is a different place of worship found for Goddess Aranavalli Thayaar. The Vimanam (tower over the sanctum sanctorum) of Sri Thirukkaar vaanar Temple is called Pushpaka Vimanam.The Pushkarani (temple tank) of Sri Thirukkaar vaanar Temple is called Gowrithadagam (Tharathara theertham) Pushkarani.

The legend behind this divya desam is that Kaar, dark mists. The mists give the downpour to the world. Since, Karunakara Perumal looks like as Kaar the blackclouds, Lord doesnt expect anything from his bhaktas yet just immaculate bhakthi or dedication from them. Sri Karunakara Perumal Temple is associated with the sage named Kaaraha.
It is said that the sage Kaaraha performed penance towards Lord Vishnu to obtain knowledge and he blessed with the knowledge by Lord Vishnu.
