Yogananda Narasimha Temple

History of the temple

YOGANANDA NARASIMHA SWAMY (Shani)

This temple is to the south-east of Lower Ahobilam at a distance of 2 kilometres. The popular legend is that after killing Hiranyakasipu, Lord Narasimha taught Prahlada several yogic postures. Therefore, the Lord in this manifestation is called Yogananda Narasimha.

This form of the Lord is seated in a padmasana with yogapatta around His legs. Once Lord Brahma visited this place when he was agitated and he returned after attaining peace by practicing devotion unto Lord Narasimha. The Deity of the Lord was being worshiped in a deep tunnel and for the sake of ease in his worship, He was brought out from the tunnel and consecrated here.

This place can be easily accessed by road from Lower Ahobilam.

This place is suitable for meditation. Prahlada is said to have obtained all the prosperity after meditating upon the Lord here. The compassionate Lord

There is a Shrine of Karanda Narasimha and another called Yogananda Narasimha. As per the Legends, that after killing the demon HiranyaKasyapa, Lord Narasimha taught  Prahlada several yogic postures and the Lord in this aspect is called Yogananda Narasimha. It is said that the Sages Gobhila and Bharadwaja performed penance to get rid of the sins that they had committed.

The two crests of the hills are called by Vedadri and Garudadri. The Tirtham divides into two and joins Kumadavati and Penna. The Tirtham is said to be an Antarvahini i.e. a river which flows inside during part of its course.
