Temple Name
Sthalam

Sarvaguneswarar Temple is a Hindu temple in the village of Karuveli in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is 500–1000 years old and dedicated to Shiva.

It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams. Praises of the temple have been sung by the Saivite saint Thirunavukkarasar. According to Hindu belief, those who pray at the Sarvaguneswarar Temple will not be reborn and instead attain salvation.

The presiding deity is Sarvaguneswarar, a form of Shiva who is all complete and perfect with all the good qualities.

There is a shrine for the consort Sarvanga-Nayaki. The idol of Sarvanga Nayaki is 5.5 feet tall. There are also shrines for Ganesha, Murugan, Ardhanarisvara, Brahma, Durga, Bhairava, Chandikeshvara and Dakshinamurtty.

The name of the temple is Kotitaida. The name of the town is Ukurili. Those blessed who worship the deities residing in this temple will get the boon of not needing to take birth again in any womb. This place is called Akuruli because it is the place where birth is cut off and Moksha is blessed. Visiting all the temples in Kumbakonam, which is full of temples, will give you the benefit of visiting this one temple. A king named Charkunan worshiped in this temple and got rid of his defects and attained moksha. So there is an opinion that he might have built this temple.

Puranam

Purana says that the place where Eason (Pithan) wandered from town to town and finally sat down was Akurili. Then the place where Mother Parvati reappeared as a beauty to join Eason is Ambachipuram, which is half a kilometer away from Akurili temple. Ambachipuram is the place where Amma stayed and prayed to join the Lord. Eason, who burned three times, performed a play called Kodugotti in this place in joyous joy, hence the temple is called Kotitai. There are no words to describe the beauty of Sarvangasundari facing east. She is very wonderful. Nainthathalamathlal with Isaan is considered as a remedy to remove the barrier of marriage.

Lord Shiva intervened to throw the pasak rope to Markandeyan at Tirukkadaiyur. Ishvara instructed Emadharman, who was frightened by this, to come and bathe in water and worship him. So Eman came here and bathed and worshiped and got rid of his sins. Even if you bathe in this water or sprinkle it on your head, empayam will go away.
