Chowara Sree Dharma Sastha Temple History

As per history the temple belonged to Mooriyathotam family. Marthanda Varma who was being chased by Ettuveetil Pillamar had taken refuge in the house of Mooriyathotam family. Ettuveetil Pillamar burnt the house down. But miraculously nothing happened to the puja room. The puja did not burn because of the presence of Ayyappa. When Marthandavarma became king he built a temple here and gave land for the maintenance of the temple.

When Mooriyathotam family split into four groups, it became impossible to maintain the temple. The temple was handed over to Ayyappa Seva Sangham.
