Sri Kalvar Perumal

Sri Thirukaarvaanar Temple is situated in ‘Thiru Kaar Vaanam‘, Kanchipuram district of Tamil nadu dedicated to Lord Vishnu and also one of the 108 Divya Desam Temples. This temple is situated very close to Kamakshi Amman Temple and also located inside the temple premises of Ulagalandha Perumal Temple which houses four temples of ‘108 Divya Desam Temples’ on it own. This Divyadesam is also found inside the Pragharam of Ooragathan Temple, Kanchipuram.

This is one of the three sanctuaries inside of one temple positioning among the Divyadesas. There are three Divyadesas inside of this temple Tiru Ooragam, Tiru Neeragam and Tiru Karakam. It is said that excepting Tiru Ooragam, different sanctuaries were somewhere else before and were set together under one rooftop at a later period. Holy person Tirumangai Azhwar had incorporated all these Divyadesas in one Mangalasasanam psalm.

The managing god of this temple is Lord Sri Kalvar seen confronting towards the north bearing and Goddess of this temple is Goddess Komalavalli Thayaar. There is a different place of worship found for Goddess Aranavalli Thayaar. The Vimanam (tower over the sanctum sanctorum) of Sri Thirukkaar vaanar Temple is called Pushpaka Vimanam. The Pushkarani (temple tank) of Sri Thirukkaar vaanar Temple is called Gowrithadagam (Tharathara theertham) Pushkarani.

Sri Thirukkaar vaanar Temple is celebrated in Nalayira Divya Prabandham , the Vaishnava standard, and songs were sung by the holy person Thirumangai Azhwar."

The Perumal found here is Sri Kalvar and he is found in Standing position facing West direction. Prathayaksham is for Gowri Parvathi Devi. The Thaayar found here is Komalavalli (Thamaraiyaal) Naachiyar.

The legend behind this divya desam is that Kaar, dark mists. The mists give the downpour to the world. Since, Karunakara Perumal looks like as Kaar the blackclouds, Lord doesnt expect anything from his bhaktas yet just immaculate bhakthi or dedication from them. Sri Karunakara Perumal Temple is associated with the sage named Kaaraha.

It is said that the sage Kaaraha performed penance towards Lord Vishnu to obtain knowledge and he blessed with the knowledge by Lord Vishnu. The word ‘Kaar’ represents Black clouds, which gives rain to enrich the world. As a result, the Lord does not expect anything but only the true devotion towards Him. Sri Karunakara Perumal Temple is situated very close to Kamakshi Amman Temple.
