History

It is said that worshipping the tree with flowers, fruits, etc. assures the welfare of the family. It not only brings health benefits to the family but also brings prosperity and happiness in the house. A banana tree is very pious and symbolizes Lord Vishnu who is believed to be “the savior”. One of the most venerated holy trees in India is the banana tree. According to a myth related to this plant, each banana tree is home to five gods. These deities are known as "Pancha Ganapathi" in Hindu mythology. Because of this, bananas are also known as "Pancha Ganapathi Poorna."

The banyan tree often represents the TrimÅ«rti, the three lords of cosmic creation, preservation and destruction—namely, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. It is very often used for metaphorical reference in the Vedic scriptures written in ancient Sanskrit. With its ever-spreading roots and branches, it is also symbolic of life and fertility in many Indian cultures and is consequently worshipped by those who wish to have children.

In India, it is in fact a highly lucky tree. Every component of it is employed to carry out some sort of ritual. Just as welcoming gates are constructed from tree trunks, Prasad is distributed using leaves, and fruit is donated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. In Kadali Vrata, the banana tree is also worshipped. Banana trees with blooms and fruits are revered for family well-being.
