History

Asamai Foundation is a cultural center by and for Hindus. Asamai means 'our mother' in Hindi/Punjabi. Asa means 'our' and Mai means 'mother'. Hinduism has many gods. Our focus is on the goddess Durga Mata, hence the name Asamai. It is a place where children, young people and the elderly come together. On Sunday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon the building is open and we pray to the gods and thank the gods for everything that has been given to us. After this we cook and eat together.

We are also open on Hindu holidays and special occasions. We give the children the right norms and values and we also teach them to read and write Hindi. We try to teach young people Satsang (singing) and Aarti. In addition, excursions are organized to Hindustani events at home and abroad. Come with your children and participate in the activities and read the holy book the 'Bhagavad Gita' and the 'Ramayan' and learn, live and celebrate Hinduism!

Our foundation has been around since 2001. At the beginning of 2016 we were located in a beautiful area in Zaandam. We try to bring the community together so they don't end up alone. This applies to both the elderly and young people. In addition to an activity room, we also have a prayer room. The foundation was founded in 2001 by a few Afghan Hindustani people. The idea was to create a meeting place, where people can practice their own culture and faith together and support each other.
