History

The center, which later turned into the ISKCON Temple in Wrocław, has been operating for three decades now. Initially, in the first half of the 1980s, an informal group of devotees teaching in this city was formed. From the beginning, these were student circles. At that time, there was no generally available literature or books on Hare Krishna philosophy in Polish. At that time, the Polish Bhagavad-gita of Srila Prabhupada (AC Bhaktivedanta Swami) was already being printed in the West and its copies reached the country. Devotees rented apartments in Wrocław, but there was no temple yet.

In the times of harsh communism, you had to be creative to obtain products for major cooking (the times of food cards), or to obtain paper for printing magazines, posters for programs, etc. During this period (1983-86) there was a dynamic student group " Veda", bringing together devotees from Wrocław. Varuna Prabhu was the driving force behind this activity. Hare Krishna programs could then be held in student residences, and real feasts were served there. In addition, the magazine "Veda" on Vaishnavite philosophy was published regularly. The devotees sent them to subscribers all over Poland. Even monastic libraries ordered them.

Our movement was officially registered as a religious association in 1988.

The first temple was located in an apartment in a tenement house at ul. Boo. Kirtiraja Prabhu (a disciple of Srila Prabhupada) purchased this small apartment in 1988. At that time, street sankirtan (book sales) was already beginning to develop dynamically. Books in Polish were still printed in the West, and a large group of Polish devotees worked on translating them.
