History

The famous and ancient temple of Bishnkhunarayan located in Godavari Municipality Ward No. 2 of Lalitpur District. This temple is about 11 km east of Lagankhel in Patan on the way to Godavari from Bade village. There is a temple on the hill on the left side of the road. The construction of this temple is said to have been established by King Haridatta Burma as a symbol of his desire to increase his fame and glory. To reach this temple, one would first enter the cave through a stone hole, that is, after entering the cave. But now, instead of going from that place, climbing the stairs on the left side, the devotees worship from the place of the temple, i.e. from outside. Inside the conch-shaped cave of Bhuvanot Narayan in this temple place is a stone in the shape of Lord Bishnu. It is believed that Bishnu Narayan was named Bishnukhunarayan because of the place where he rested as Lord Shankhakar. It is believed that the name of these Narayans became Bishnu's conch, i.e. Bishnu conch upbhasha and remained with Bishankhu. In this temple both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are living in secret. This Narayan is also called Yogadevi. According to the mythology, Bhasmasura, who received a gift from Lord Shiva, even tried to burn Lord Shiva. Bhasmasura chased Shiva and reached this place. Mohinirup Narayan told Bhasmasura not to believe in Mahadev's words, the gift that you have got is that even if you put your hand on his head, he will be burnt. There is a mythical saying that he killed Bhasmasur by putting his hand on his head without telling him to put it on his head once. A pillar in front of the temple, where the ashes were burnt. This hill is considered by the locals as a symbol of ashes. The lotus statue of Ashtadal, the symbol of Bishnukhunarayan, can still be seen at the place where the charming Bishnu Lord resides. There is also a cave here. This cave is also called Dharmagufa. According to Hindu beliefs, devotees worship Narayan in the month of Kartik, one of the months of the year. There are four Narayan temples in the valley. Of these, Narayan is considered to be the most famous Narayan. For this reason, on the day of Haribodhani Ekadashi, the festival of the Hindus, the devotees even go around the 4 Narayans in the valley. The temple complex has a large inscription as well as idols of various gods and goddesses.
