History

The famous Batuk Bhairav Temple in Patan, Lalitpur District, Nepal. On the way to Godavari, Ashoka Chaitya falls in front of the northeast corner. There are many rocks inside this temple, out of which there are three big rocks. The middle rock is the largest. Devotees worship the same stones as Bhairav's form. Batuk Bhairav literally means the sattvic form of childhood. According to the Tantropasana Darpan, there are eight forms of Batukbhairav, of which Kalvatuk, Shankarvatuk, Bhratruvatuk, Devivatuk, Sthanvatuk, Megh Vatuk, Chandravatuk and Vainayak Vatuk. This temple is very crowded with devotees especially on Sundays, also known as Bhaitwar Bhairav's War. There is a belief that if you worship this Vatuk Bhairav, the planet will change its direction. In this temple, devotees offer black cloth, piece of iron, black soybean, etc. Bhairavastotra is also recited on the wall near the temple. Bhairav is one of these ancient people. Most of the devotees have faith in these Bhairavs.
