Hagiography

Nityānanda, also known as Nitai, was a prominent figure in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition of Bengal. He was a close friend and disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and is considered an incarnation of Balarama. Nityānanda and Chaitanya are often mentioned together as Gaura-Nitai or Nimai-Nitai. Nityānanda is revered as the "most merciful" incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He was born in Ekachakra in the year 1474 and displayed devotion and musical talent from an early age. Nityānanda traveled with spiritual teachers and played a significant role in the lives of other prominent Vaishnava personalities. He married two daughters of Suryadasa Sarakhela and settled in Khardaha, West Bengal. Nityānanda's teachings and actions played a crucial role in the revival of Hinduism in Eastern India and contributed to the rich Vaishnava literary heritage of Bengal.
