Hagiography

Amma, also known as Matrusri Anasuya Devi, was a spiritual leader from Andhra Pradesh, India. She was born on March 28, 1923, in a small village to Seethapathi Rao and Rangamma. After experiencing the loss of five children, Rangamma gave birth to Anasuya. On May 5, 1936, Anasuya got married to Brahmandam Nageswara Rao in Bapatla. Nageswara Rao later became the village officer of Jillellamudi, which is now partially known as Arkapur

As a young homemaker in Jillellamudi, Amma took care of her family while also creating a grain bank to help the poor. She even gave food to every visitor to the village and later founded Annapurnalayam, a common dining hall, and the House of All to provide lodging. In 1966, Amma started a Sanskrit school, which is now known as the Matrusri Oriental College and High School. Amma believed in the goodness of all people and did not judge them based on their religion or beliefs. She passed away on June 12, 1985, and a temple called Anasuyeswaralayam was built in her honor, which features a life-size statue of her installed in 1987.
