Hagiography

Sant Sopandeo was a sant from the Varkari tradition and the younger brother of Dnyaneshwar. He passed away at the age of 19 in 1296 A.D. His notable work, Sopandevi, includes around 50 abhangs and is based on the Marathi translation of the Bhagavad Gita.

Sant Sopandeo's elder brother, Nivruttinath, was a scholar and authority on the Nath tradition. Nivruttinath's teachings influenced Dnyaneshwar, who considered him his guru. After Dnyaneshwar's death, Nivruttinath and their sister Muktai went on a pilgrimage, but Muktai tragically died in a thunderstorm. Nivruttinath attained samadhi at Tryambakeshwar.

Dnyaneshwar, the second sibling, was a renowned Marathi saint, poet, philosopher, and yogi of the Nath tradition. His works, Jñānēśvarī (commentary on the Bhagavad Gita) and Amrutanubhav, are significant contributions to Marathi literature.

Muktabai, Dnyaneshwar's younger sister, wrote forty-one abhangs during her lifetime. Nivruttinath, the eldest brother, is credited with approximately 375 abhangs, although there are disputes over the authorship of some of his writings due to differences in style and philosophy.
