Hagiography

Sant Nirmala was a 14th-century poet from Maharashtra, India. As the younger sister of Chokhamela, she was considered a holy figure like her brother and is revered as a Hindu saint. Nirmala was married to Banka, a member of the Untouchable Mahar caste, and her abhangs often address the injustices and inequalities she experienced due to the caste system.

Work Done

Nirmala's poems reflect her spiritual devotion and her preference for the divine over worldly concerns. She expresses a deep love for the god of Pandharpur, but interestingly, never mentions her husband, Banka, in her writings.
