Hagiography

Raghavendra Tirtha, also known as Sudha Parimalacharya, was a Hindu scholar, theologian, and saint. He served as the pontiff of matha at Kumbakonam from 1621 to 1671. Born as Venkatanatha in Bhuvanagiri, Tamil Nadu, he hailed from a family of musicians and scholars. Raghavendra Tirtha's diverse contributions include commentaries on the works of Madhva, Jayatirtha, and Vyasatirtha, interpretations of Principal Upanishads from the Dvaita standpoint, and a treatise on Purva Mimamsa. He was an accomplished veena player and composed songs under the name Venu Gopala. Raghavendra Swami's shrine in Mantralayam attracts a large number of visitors each year. He took Samadhi in 1671 in Mantralayam, Andhra Pradesh.

Work Done

Sri Raghavendra Swamy, also known as Sudha Parimalacharya, authored around forty works characterized by their simplicity and ability to explain Dvaita metaphysical concepts. His notable works include Tantradipika, Bhavadipa, commentaries on Upanishads, Rig Veda, and Bhagavad Gita, and a treatise on Jaimini Sutras called Bhatta Sangraha. Raghavendra Swamy had a conversation with Sir Thomas Munroe, recorded in the Madras Gazette, discussing the restitution of Inam Lands. He is revered as a saint preaching the worship of Vishnu regardless of caste or creed. His life has been eulogized in Raghavendra Vijaya and Raghavendra Stotra, and he is celebrated in popular culture, including Indian cinema.
