Hagiography

Purandara Dasa was a 15th-16th century Haridasa philosopher and a follower of Madhwacharya's Dwaitha philosophy. He was a composer, singer, and one of the chief founding proponents of Carnatic music. Purandara Dasa was born in Karnataka, India, and was initially a wealthy merchant before dedicating his life to devotional singing. He is known for his contributions to Carnatic music, including the formulation of teaching methods and the composition of numerous songs. He is considered the "Pitamaha" or father of Carnatic music. Purandara Dasa also advocated for social reforms, including the fight against casteism and promoting gender equality.
